Monitoring the Air for Chemicals
BDN can assist employers by conducting monitoring to establish that employees are not exposed to environmental stresses in excess of established permissible exposure limits (PELs). Periodic monitoring is necessary to show that changes in the workplace have not increased employee exposures. Benefits of a proactive monitoring program include:
- Fewer OSHA citations
- Good employee relations
- Third-party verification/documentation
- A safe workplace
Using approved air sampling methods and laboratories accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), our Industrial Hygienists can monitor for toxic gases, dusts, fumes, mists and vapors. Depending on the specific parameters of the project, we may conduct:
- Initial walk-through evaluations
- Full-shift air monitoring (OSHA-approved methods)
- 15-minute short term exposure limit (STEL) sampling
- Continuous air monitoring to determine exposure concentration trends
